The Weekly Ass Clown – Larry Ward – Organizer of Gun Appreciation Day

Posted on January 15, 2013

Larry Wardass clown /as kloun/ n: an abject failure who is simultaneously arrogant, condescending and obnoxious. Synonym: douchebag

January 19, 2013 is the first Gun Appreciation Day, per its organizer – Larry Ward. Mr. Ward has promoted the day, which falls on the same weekend as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s holiday observance, because he feels Dr. King would have supported Gun Appreciation Day. Additionally, he states that if slaves would have had guns there would have been no slavery. Combine this with classic domestic terrorist nonsense from RWNJ Ted Nugent claiming that gun owners are the modern-day Rosa Parks, and other gun owners who claim that gun ownership is a civil right and you have a whole bunch of misinformed, ignorant, crazy people… with guns!

To dispel a few myths…

1. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would not have supported any type of gun appreciation day. Dr. King was killed at the hands of an assassin by a gun. Furthermore, Dr. King preached about nonviolence and was also specifically against guns, especially later in his life.

2. If Slaves were allowed to have guns there would’ve been no slavery. This is an utterly ridiculous statement. First, slaves had absolutely no rights, so if magically, slaves would have awoken one morning to a plethora of guns, it most likely would’ve meant the annihilation of African-Americans in the New World, not slave freedom. See these rebellions and the disproportionate force used to squelch them –  Nat Turner’s Rebellion, Stono Rebellion, and 1811 German Coast Uprising,

3. Gun Ownership is NOT a Civil RightA civil right is an enforceable right or privilege, which if interfered with by another gives rise to an action for injury. Examples of civil rights are freedom of speech, press, and assembly; the right to vote; freedom from involuntary servitude; and the right to equality in public places. Discrimination occurs when the civil rights of an individual are denied or interfered with because of their membership in a particular group or class. Various jurisdictions have enacted statues to prevent discrimination based on a person’s race, sex, religion, age, previous condition of servitude, physical limitation, national origin, and in some instances sexual orientation. In no instance is gun ownership a protected class. Furthermore, the Bill of Rights does not guarantee the right to bear arms for self-defense… it guarantees a right to bear arms IN A WELL REGULATED MILITIA.

Getting back to this week’s ass clown, Mr. Ward, you have outdone yourself by being this year’s first ass clown! Going from absolute obscurity to relative obscurity, you have promoted killing devices that killed Dr. King, on his holiday weekend no less. You have also attempted to misinform the public as to the MLK’s true disdain for guns. Finally, your misguided and unbelievably stupid assertion that guns would have removed the stain of slavery from this country contributes to your status as this years first Weekly Ass Clown! Well done, sir!
